LED's are semiconductors, and as such they are current driven devices. The majority of LED lights available on the market do not incorporate a constant current device and become very ineffiecient voltage driven lights. This means that as the voltage powering the LED light varies, so to does the current flowing in the LED light causing low levels of light emission when the desired voltage drops below the critical point, and over brightness when the voltage levels rise. The higher voltage levels then cause excess current to flow in the LED light which in turn leads to reduced life span (operating hours) and in some cases permanent damge to the LED light.

So although some LED lights are cheap - they come with a built in hidden price of a short life span, annoying flicker and light level fluctuation.

When next you purchase a LED light fitting, ensure it has a constant current engine built in. If it doesn't, look for one that does!
